RUNNERS' CLUB OF GREATER CINCINNATI BOARD MEETING AGENDA
February 1, 2004
(Bob Roncker's Running Spot)

Members Present: Jody Collier, Barb Cox, Tara Curtis, Tom Glasscock, Todd Hofacre, Ed Hunter, Nick Kleiner, Mike Moyer, Cathy Russo, Jeff Sprague. Guests: Dave Muenzer (CAA), Mike Tigani (CAA), Susan Frankel (Fleet Feet)

Newsletter: Barb asked Board members to use her home email: bjc0822@hotmail.com effective immediately. For the upcoming issue (February/March), she requested an article from CAA discussing their involvement with the running community and where they see themselves going in the future. She plans to include an article on the Valentines Day Race (February 8) and photos from the Frostbite 5 Race (January 1). Marty Hovey, a member who won the Rock n' Roll AZ marathon free entry (provided to the Club by the marathon) has written an article on the marathon regarding his participation.

Membership: Todd noted that eight new members joined in January 2004, compared to two new members in January 2003. CAA members are converting their memberships to RCGC. Susan has offered to provide a coupon, for the newsletter, in which Fleet Feet would offer a $10 discount on merchandise to first-time RCGC members and to current members who bring in a new member.

Valentine's 2 Mile Run (February 8, 2004,12 noon, NKU): Tom will bring equipment, Nick will pick up awards, and Stacy will set up and manage the finish line. Several volunteers will be needed to handle packet pick-up at Bob Roncker's Running Spot on Saturday, February 7, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Flying Pig Marathon (May 2, 2004, Cincinnati): Two individual entries RCGC has received from the marathon committee have not yet been given away. Interested individuals were requested to express their interest in an email to the Club. The team entry has been given away. To date, Tara has gotten 14 volunteers to work the Club's water stop. A minimum of 30 volunteers will be needed. It was suggested that we remind Club members that their supporters can help not only by cheering them on, but by assisting at the water stop. There is the Expo on Saturday evening, May 1, if there are enough volunteers that would be interested in this time. Tara agreed to gauge interest.

Heart Mini-marathon 27 (March 28, 2004; 5K, 9 a.m.; 15K, 10 a.m., downtown Cincinnati): We need to provide two volunteers for our Flying Pig water stop to help at one of the Mini-marathon water stops. Tara will contact prospective volunteers. For bag stuffing we need to provide about 30+ volunteers for both occasions (February 23 and March 8). Logo: Club members wishing to have the RCGC logo on the backs of their t-shirts will need to exchange the t-shirts from their race packets at the Club's booth at the expo. The Club will have 35 shirts for such exchanges -- first come, first served. Board members will man the Club booth at the expo.

Memorial Day Race (May 31, 2004, 5 miles, 9 a.m., Lunken Airport): The Board agreed that the race should start at 9 a.m. Mike proposed that the race entry fee be $10 for members and $12 for nonmembers. Mike and Susan Frankel will discuss costs for a race t-shirt (possibly around $5 extra). Mike, Nick and Susan will discuss whether to include the shirt fee with the race fee. In addition, we will try to sell the last of our Club singlets at $18 each.

Leap Day Run (February 29, 2.29 miles, 2:29 p.m. start, Newport riverfront as possible location): Fleet Feet and Bob Roncker's Running Spot will be sponsors. Ed McMasters has designed a great t-shirt. Proposed fees: pre-registration $12.29; race day, $15.00. Only pre-registered will receive T-shirts. The police will be the most significant expense; approximately $600. The Hofbrau House in Newport may be willing to give us some pint glasses as awards. Mike is working with the Hofbrau House on this. The proposed mid-afternoon race time might encourage runners to stop by the Hofbrau House after the race. Alternatively, Fleet Feet and the Running Spot may provide awards.

Club Social Activities:
(1) Next Club Happy Hour: Tuesday, February 24, 2004, 6:30 p.m., at Olde Fort Pub, Ft. Thomas, KY.
(2) Follow-up Happy Hour: Wednesday, April 14, 2004, 6:30 p.m., at the Running Spot East, Milford.

Run to the Dubliner
(Sunday, March 7, 2004, 3 miles, 1:00 p.m., start and finish at the Dubliner Restaurant in Pleasant Ridge): This race benefits the Special Olympics and will be the run-of-the-month along with the Heart Mini-marathon (March 28). Participation by Club members is encouraged.

Summer Track Meet: Mike proposed that we try holding track meets in conjunction with either a high school or other track team on the second and fourth Tuesdays in June and July, location to be determined. Stacy Osborne suggested, through phone conversation with Mike, that Princeton High School might be interested. Jeff Branhan, a local coach, may also work with us on this venture. There was insufficient time to discuss further details at this meeting, so, it will be considered at a future Board meeting.

Next Board Meeting: Sunday, March 7, 12 noon, at The Dubliner, 6111 Montgomery Road, Pleasant Ridge (before the 3 mile race). PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN MEETING TIME AND LOCATION.

Respectfully submitted,
Ed Hunter, Secretary
