RUNNERS' CLUB OF GREATER CINCINNATI BOARD MEETING MINUTES
July 10, 2005
(at Bob Roncker's Running Spot)
Members Present: Glasscock, Todd Hofacre, Jeff Hummel, Ed Hunter, Nick Kleiner, Kate Rich, Carl Rich
Newsletter: Ed has prepared an article about Bill Workman, which he will review for accuracy with Bill's friend (and former Board Member), Howard Hughes. Ed will make appropriate revisions and email the article to Amy for the next newsletter. Separately, he will mail to Amy several photos of Bill, including one he received from Howard. Tom also has a few photos of Bill that he will send to Amy. The next newsletter issue also will include information about the Club picnic (August 28) and a flyer for the Brian Rohne Memorial 5K Run and Walk (August 12). Ed has not been able to reach Marty Fritzhand, who plans to run the "Grand Slam," a group of four 100-mile races over a period of ten weeks this summer. Ed wants to interview Marty about the races and will prepare an article possibly for the fall issue. The Board agreed that the newsletter should be printed in black and white to speed up the printing process. It is hoped that the next issue will be mailed out to members by early August. Board members will apply address labels after the next Board meeting (July 31).
End of Summer Picnic: (Sunday, August 28, 2005, at Swaim Park, Montgomery, last year's picnic location). The shelter we used last year has been reserved for the picnic. Swaim Park is located on Cooper Road west of Montgomery Road. Kate and Carl noted that we have plenty of food (frozen hamburgers, chicken patties, hot dogs, buns, beverages) left over from the Memorial Day Race. Prizes will be needed for the prediction run and possibly for games. Jeff will bring his gas grill to cook the meats. The 2.5-mile prediction run will use the same course we used last year. The Board will meet at 1 p.m., preceding the picnic. The picnic will start at 3 p.m., the prediction run at around 3:30 p.m., and dinner at around 4:30-5:30 p.m., followed by games. Members whose last names begin with A-K will bring desserts; those whose last names begin with L-Z will bring sides or salads (reversed from last year). Nick will talk with Amy about preparing an information flyer for the next newsletter. They might simply update last year's flyer (from the Summer 2004 newsletter).
Upcoming Race: Brian Rohne Memorial 5K Run & Walk (Friday, August 12, 7:00 p.m., NKU) The race starts and finishes at the Albright Health Center. The Club will provide several volunteers.
Holiday Party: Scheduled for Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Fort Thomas Community Center, same location as last year. It was suggested that we dispense with the DJ, which cost us $400 last January. Instead, Nick and Jeff indicated that they could set up a music system. Ed might bring his keyboard to supplement Nick and Jeff's music.
Memorial Day Race 2006: The 2006 race will be the 30th anniversary of the local Memorial Day Run. At this year's race (May 30), David Nelson, one of the founders of the original "Clifton Track Club," suggested that we have a special t-shirt for the 30th anniversary race. David told Ed that he had once seen a special anniversary race shirt that included the design of the original shirt for that particular race. (David is one of few local runners who has run all 29 previous local Memorial Day Runs. He sometimes wears his "original shirt.") The Board agreed that a special t-shirt and perhaps special awards for the runners who have run all 30 races would be good ideas to consider. We might invite David to a future Board meeting to discuss further any thoughts he may have.
Next Club Happy Hour: Board members agreed this should be a Thursday evening in September, location to be determined.
Next Board Meeting: Sunday, July 31, 1:00 p.m., at Bob Roncker's Running Spot. The focus will be on the summer picnic and on addressing newsletters. The September Board meeting will be August 28, 1:00 p.m., at Swaim Park.
